Festival du Film Merveilleux

Founded in 2010 in Paris, France, the Festival du Film Merveilleux is a unique international film festival. The film festival is one that focuses on specific themes including fantasy and magic. Founded by Benedicte Beaugeois and Maureen Gerby, it works in conjunction with the not-for-profit organization, the Talulah Association, which organizes short film events and feature film events in Paris. The Talulah Association also sets up workshops and lectures focusing on ecological awareness and film appreciation. The Festival du Film Merveilleux partnered with world renowned UNESCO for the 2014 festival, which has helped to place the film festival in the spotlight for international recognition.

The Festival du Film Merveilleux is truly a unique and interesting film festival. The films must be of a short length, less than 20 minutes viewing time. In addition, all films submitted have to have been produced after 2013. The theme of the films have to relate to celebrating dreams, fairytales, fables, comics, science fiction, supernatural powers, vampires, comics, or other similar genres. The film festival Jury is looking for unique, interesting, and innovative ideas, designs, and concepts.

The Festival du Film Merveilleux consists of two categories of films. Those categories consist of In Competition films and Out of Competition films. In 2014, there were a total of 33 short films that were screened. 23 of the films were competing in the In Competition category. The In Competition category has several awards that are presented. Awards are presented for the best movie, the best screenplay, the best animated movie, and a special judges award.

The Festival du Film Merveilleux continues to grow in popularity each year. As the film festival continues to gain international recognition, the number of submitted films increase. The festival will continue to garner support from non-profit organizations in order to help further their cause.
